Nelson Carrinho Hosts President Joe Biden and African Leaders at Carrinho

The Carrinho Group experienced a historic moment this Wednesday, December 4, 2024, when it received the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, at the Carrinho. The occasion was also attended by the Presidents of Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia, as well as the Vice President of Tanzania.

The visit took place as part of the inaugural summit of the Partnership for Global Infrastructure (PGI), consolidating the leading role of the Carrinho Group in the Lobito Trans-African Corridor and in the sustainable development agenda of the African continent.

Nelson Carrinho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Carrinho, had the honor of accompanying the leaders on a visit to the facilities of the industrial complex, highlighting the group’s pioneering initiatives in the agro-industrial sector. During the visit, the progress of the agricultural infrastructure project was presented, which is already positioned as one of the largest in Africa, with a direct impact on more than a quarter of the Angolan population and with the aim of supporting more than two million small farmers by 2030.

President Joe Biden reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to supporting sustainable development in Africa, highlighting the importance of partnering with the Carrinho Group to promote food security, poverty eradication, and regional integration. The support includes a Letter of Interest signed by the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to finance Silos and expand access to logistics facilities for smallholder farmers along the rail corridor.

The presence of African leaders reinforced the joint vision of transforming the Lobito Corridor into an example of regional cooperation and an engine for the continent’s economic and social growth.

This historic milestone strengthens the Carrinho Group’s 2030 Vision and consolidates the company’s leadership throughout the agricultural value chain in Africa and positioning Angola as a reference in sustainable development and food security.
