CARRINHO and USAID Strengthen Partnership for the Promotion of Family Farming in Benguela

Lobito, April 25, 2024 – As part of the visit to Benguela province, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma and USAID Director-General Samantha Power participated in an action that reinforces the commitment to the development of family farming in Angola. The pair visited the ADPP Agricultural Technicians Training School, an initiative included in the bilateral program between the governments of the United States and Angola, with a special focus on supporting about 20 thousand women farmers.

In the meeting held with the CEO of Grupo Carrinho, Nelson Carrinho, it was guaranteed that CARRINHO will absorb all the agricultural production generated by the women who are part of the USAID program, also providing technical assistance whenever necessary. This support is part of the company’s commitment to strengthening family farming and empowering women farmers.

Currently, CARRINHO works with more than 155 thousand family producers, of which 45% are women, and projects the inclusion of up to 2 million farmers by 2030, under the agricultural development program that aims to ensure food self-sufficiency in Angola. The partnership with USAID reinforces the strategy of expanding family agricultural production and the sustainability of the national supply chain.

With this initiative, CARRINHO and USAID reaffirm their commitment to promoting Angola’s economic growth through agriculture, ensuring market access for thousands of producers and contributing to the fight against food insecurity.
